WORLD PREMIERE
System Building
" an original and thought-provoking work which can be enjoyed on many levels…This was not just music for the ears and eyes, but for the mind as well, and I ruminated on the experience for days."
- Resonate Magazine, December 2009
An international percussion work of miniature proportions, System Building fuses percussion and architecture on an intimate scale. Artist Rosemary Joy's new work features a series of miniature percussion instruments, each inspired by a venue in which the work will be performed.
Drawing inspiration from the architecture of Sydney’s CarriageWorks, Radialsystem V (Berlin), Watertoren West (Groningen) in the Netherlands and the Melbourne Recital Centre, System Building challenges the very idea of a musical instrument.
Astonishing Mexican percussionists Diego Espinosa and Evaristo Aguilar with Melbourne's wunderkind Eugene Ughetti performed this minutely staged work for duo percussion to an audience of only twelve people at a time.
