Sarah Kriegler is a freelance puppeteer and puppetry director. She is a graduate of the VCA School of Drama Animateuring (Theatre Making) course. In 2000, Sarah received a Churchill Fellowship, awarded to undertake an intensive study in Puppetry at Teatro San Martin, Buenos Aires, Argentina for six months. During 2001, she was awarded at Rotary “Young Achievers Award” for services to the puppetry arts. She is a core artist at Polyglot Puppet Theatre and is currently the artistic representative on the board of Polyglot.
As a director, Sarah has directed many puppet production including for Polyglot Puppet Theatre Hissy Fit and The Noise Factory . Her other puppetry directing credits include Our Place, This Place, How the Tortoise Cracked Her Shell, Pablo and the Storm, Journey of Fish, The House of Dreams, Witches in Carlton and Absence and Presence. She also worked as assistant director for Rising Higher and puppetry coordinator for High Rise with Polyglot Puppet Theatre. Most recently, she directed Gaudi and the Turtle – a puppetry and performance piece for adults created by Tortuga Theatre. As a performer, Sarah’s work has been seen in shows such as Timebender, The Black Light House, Sunflowers, Fin and Muckheap and Stop That House (all with Polylgot Puppet Theatre). During 2004, she toured to Europe with Black Hole Theatre’s production Caravan and most recently performed in A Quarreling Pair with Aphids for the Melbourne Festival 2004 which played to sell-out audiences. She has also created many of her own works including One Night The Dog and Foxy’s House of Horror’s with Kalki Henenberg which was recently performed at The Villiage as part The Bis West Fest. Sarah has also puppeteered for film and television including Horace and Tina for Channel 10 as well as Downtown video clip for Alex Lloyd which won an MTV award for “best film clip” During 2003 she starred as “Cliff” in Naff FM for ABC Fly TV Digital network and most recently puppeteered on the mini-series of Farscape.
