[administrative and marketing assistant]
Anna van Veldhuisen is an arts administrator, percussionist and pub trivia champion. Recently graduating from the VCA with a Bachelor of Music Performance, she works in contemporary cross artform practice as a performer, producer and director. Straddling the intersections between beat poetry, ‘classical music’, theatre, and sound art, her work irreverently ponders and pokes fun at what makes humanoids tick. In 2011, she is Australia Council funded and involved as a Catapult young artist at the St Martin’s Youth Theatre.
As a young administration and marketing worker, she has supported a number of not-for-profits on a volunteer basis as well as casual involvement in Speak Percussion and work at Aphids. Recently, Anna has also been appointed the Marketing and Development Assistant of the Melbourne Jazz Co-operative.
Between 2008 and 2010, Anna lived as a resident at Queen's College, University of Melbourne. In 2010 she acted as President of the Music and Drama Society, established in 1914, and President of the Inter-Collegiate Activities Council, the peak body for creative and cultural activites amongst residential students at the University. Anna was also involved in student unionism as Campaigns Co-ordinator of the VCAM Student Association.
Anna is frequently involved in the Union House Theatre scene at the University. In 2008 Anna was awarded the Melbourne Theatre Company's UHT Musical Director's award for her original score to Moliere's 17th century play, The Imaginary Invalid. In 2009, she again held the role of Musical Director for the QCMADS production of Cabaret. She has performed in chamber, solo, and orchestral contexts throughout Melbourne and internationally.
