RealTime's review of Solodrumming is here.
“Mr Hauser is simply one of the best drummers alive.“ NEW YORK TIMES
“An extraordinary display of drumming, improvised but as taut in its energy as any written score...Fritz Hauser’s solo performance lives in the memory.“ THE AGE
Swiss percussionist Fritz Hauser is widely known for the uncompromising virtuosity of his solo programs on drums and percussion, which he performs worldwide. The fluid intensity of his approach to performance has seen him take a leading role in collaborations with distinguished ensembles, soloists and artists such as Kroumata, Nexus, Keiko Abe, Synergy Percussion, Steven Schick and dancer/choreographer Anna Huber. He has also collaborated far beyond the concert platform on crossmedia works with architect Boa Baumann and with director Barbara Frey.
Hauser has composed for percussion ensembles and soloists, sound installations, radio plays, films and readings. His solo work is uniquely impressive and this concert is a stunning display of skill, energy, creativity and subtle knowledge of the possibilities for contemporary percussion.
Solodrumming was an improvised performance drawing inspiration from Schallmachine, Hauser’s collaboration with architect Boa Baumann and Melbourne’s Aphids and Speak Percussion, experienced as part of the 2006 Melbourne Festival. Tickets sold quickly to see the artist, described by Penguin Book Guide to Jazz notes, “shouldn't on any account be missed.”
